Action by Johannes Calvijn Primary School Leerdam

for a new Threewheeler for the Disabled Children Project

Dear friends,

Grade 5 and 6, together 90 children, of the Johannes Calvijn Primary School in Leerdam in the Netherlands performed from April 20th till May 16th several actions and activities for Ceylon Christian Care.

The actions started with a presentation to the children on Monday April 20. We told them about the situation on Sri Lanka and the projects of Ceylon Christian Care. This made a deep impression on the children.

Goal of the actions was to collect money for a new Threewheeler for the disabled children project in the village of Periyaneelavanai. The remaining money will be used to distribute children’s bibles of H. van Dam.

The children did sell candies, thee, small wooden elephants and books. The children were very motivated and enthousiatic. After one day we had to order already more candies.

On May 16 we counted the money collected and we found that the children had brought together the unexpected high amount of 5.150 Euro! We have handled over the money to Rev Sounthi, the manager of the projects in Periyaneelavanai, on June 9. He was that week for a visit in the Netherlands. First he had to guess the amount. Hereafter the four children who collected the highest amount got a special present. However, all children had done a good job and all got an ice-cream.

We like to thank all children, staff and sponsors for their contribution!

Kind regards,

Bert van Voorden and Paul van der Waal
