Dear friends,
In late August of this year, Nick and Maaike from Lethbridge (Alberta, Canada) hope to travel to Sri Lanka to do volunteer work for four months at several of our projects. Nick got to know Maaike via email while she volunteered in Sri Lanka four years ago; two and a half years later they were married in Lethbridge. Nick studied at the University of Lethbridge for five years, while working at Young Parkyn McNab, a Chartered Accountant firm in Fort Macleod. He has now completed his Bachelor of Management Degree, and hopes to serve those who are less fortunate before pursuing his CA designation. Nick was the treasurer of Lethbridge Students for Life, a campus pro-life club at the University of Lethbridge, during his last year in university. In the months between graduation and going to Sri Lanka, Nick plans to work full-time at YPM. Maaike was in Sri Lanka in 2005/2006 for almost six months. She has now completed her Bachelor of Social Work Degree at the University of Calgary, and hopes to use her counselling skills while serving victims of the ongoing civil war. Maaike previously volunteered at Calvin Christian School, a private K-12 school, and at the Lethbridge Shelter and Resource Center, an organisation and a safe haven for homeless people. She was also the vice-president and president of Lethbridge Students for Life for two consecutive years. From May through July, Maaike will work for Lethbridge & District Pro-Life, as well as with children with mental and/or physical challenges. We welcome Nick and Maaike (again!) on our projects on Sri Lanka. With their knowledge and experience they will help in the various projects of Ceylon Christian Care, like the community development projects, John’s Academy and more.
