Dear friends,

In the month of May both Rev Jeyanesan and Mrs. Vathany visited the Netherlands. During that visit we had several boardmeetings. In these meetings we discussed the situation on Sri Lanka and the progress of the projects. Mrs. Vathany visited several schools in the Netherlands and told the students about the work of the foundation.

The situation on Sri Lanka is still very tense. It is not expected that the violence will stop on short term. There are sources that say that the current situation can continue for years. Many people are due to the fights between the government army and Tamil groups displaced from there homes and live in camps. Especially during the raining season of the last months this gave many problems. Ceylon Christian Care supported during the last months Rev Jeyanesan and his team several times to provide help to these needy people.

Visit Rev. Jeyanesan and Mrs. Vathany to the Netherlands

Although the projects run well the sorrows continue for the country of Sri Lanka. I like to close this update with the same words as of previous update. May we ask you again to remember this nation in your prayers and pray for peace for the people. And above all peace through the blood of Jesus in the hearts of these people.

Kind regards,

Herman van der Weerd

Johns Academy

The building activities were finished by the end of May. We are very happy with the result. The new building will be opened on June 13. This is exactly one year after the start of John’s Academy on his temporary location.

From the Netherlands we stay in contact with the staff of the school by monthly conference calls. During these calls several topics are discussed. During the first conference call we discussed the materials used and the yearly program by grade. We must say that we were positively surprised by the materials used and the teaching program.

The activities in this village still continue. More and more families get an own well and sanitation facility.

In March the students who finished the 6 month sewing training received a loan to purchase a sewing machine. With this machine they can generate income.

Until today 75 families and 60 widows received a micro credit. Wit this money they started a small business to earn income.

Translation project

At this moment we have a translation project to translate the 4 books of Mrs. Hartingsveldt-Moree of the serial “Come Children” from Dutch into English into Tamil. The translation of the first two books into English are finished and the third book is on its way. This translation is done by Mrs Grisnich and her husband in Canada. The wife of Rev Jeyanesan does the translation from English to Tamil.

Rev Jeyanesan brought with him the  first book of Mrs. Hartingsveldt-Moree, “Come Children - Learn from Me” translated into Tamil. We are happy with this result. This first book will be printed in a simple manner and used in the homes and John’s Academy. As soon all books are translated we will bundle them into one book and start the printing.
