Friends,

On Monday Jul 17th the inauguration of the new Christian English Medium School Johns Academy in Batticaloa took place. The ceremony started with a service. After the service 2 children cut the ribbon and inaugurated the school.

The Bible reading was from Luke chapter 8 verse 41 to chapter 9 verse 6.

The story in chapter 8 is about the daughter of Jaïrus and the sick woman. Rev Jeyanesan explained that there were in both cases people who were in need of help. Both of them had faith that Jesus could help them. Today there are many children and mothers in need. As Christians we have to help them.

In the first 6 verses of chapter 9 Jesus send his disciples to other cities. He told them to preach the Gospel and heal the sick. This is the commandment Jesus has given to all of us.

After this Rev Jeyanesan mentioned the uniqueness of this school. This school:

· Will be an English medium school. On Sri Lanka English medium schools are for the rich and wealthy children. Where as this school is for war and tsunami victim orphanage children.

· Will be the first of its kind going to have technical studies included in curriculum from the six standards onwards (due to cooperation with the VTC).

· Will prepare children to fulfill the World’s challenges. We will try to provide the opportunities given to other children to our children on Sri Lanka also.

· Will be a Christian school. On this school children will hear about the Gospel

The inauguration was joined by the staff of almost all projects, children, family of the children and church members.

The school starts in a temporary place with 64 students over 5 grades. The permanent buildings are under construction and will be ready by the end of this year.

It is our wish that the Lord will bless this project and that many children will get a good education for a future in this and in eternal live.

Kind Regards,
